If you’re like me, any time you spot a synthesizer or keyboard in a movie or TV program, you’re immediately identifying what model it is (and hoping to get at least half the generous camera shots that singers and guitarists get, right?). I was pleased to see a synth appearance in a trailer for the upcoming Tim Burton film, Frankenweenie.

Frankenweenie is a feature-length stop-motion remake of a live-action short film released by Burton in 1984 under the same name. The main character, Victor Frankenstein, is described as “a clever and industrious 10-year old boy who is inspired by science … who immerses himself in making films and inventing in his attic workshop.”

From the few brief looks the trailer gives us of his workshop, Victor at least dabbles in electronic music. His synthesizer appears to be a fictional model, but it fits in nicely with the rest of his retro sic-fi equipment in the room. I wonder if it’s just there to provide sound effects and music for Victor’s movie-making hobby, or whether he’s got a music hobby too.

Have you seen the original 1984 Frankenweenie short? I’d be interested to know whether the Victor in that version also had a keyboard in the workshop.
